Legendary designer Stephen Burrows will be at LIM College on Nov. 4
On November 4, famed designer Stephen Burrows will appear at LIM College as part of the new Fashion Insiders bi-annual guest speaker series. Featuring leaders in their respective disciplines, Fashion Insiders events provide LIM College students with special access to some of the most fascinating figures in the fashion industry.
This event will be held in LIM Colleges FashionOpolis (12 East 53rd St.) from 6:30 7:30 p.m. Students in LIM Colleges Fashion Scholars program will attend a private reception with Stephen Burrows from 6:00 6:30 p.m.
Burrows will talk to students about how he has remained true to his vision as a designer over the last four decades. In a world of constant change and in a business that is equally as volatile, Burrows has stayed true to himself and his customer, which will be a powerful story for students.
This summer, Burrows designed a pantsuit that First Lady Michelle Obama wore at a White House event. He also designed a collection for the opening of Target in Harlem that subsequently was sold at Target stores nationwide.
Burrows is the first African-American fashion designer to achieve international acclaim and his designs are a foundation for signature American style. His client roster has included Cher, Diana Ross, Lauren Bacall, Liza Minnelli, Jerry Hall, Lauren Hutton, and Barbara Streisand. Burrows has a star on the CFDA's Fashion Walk of Fame and received the CFDA's Board of Directors Special Tribute Award in 2006.
The event will start with a Q&A session with questions prepared in advance by participants in LIMs College Fashion Scholars program (which provides an enriched experience for academically advanced students) and then Burrows will take questions from the audience. A reception exclusively for Fashion Scholars students will take place prior to Burrowss talk to give them a chance to interact with him on a more informal and intimate basis.
The Fashion Insiders series included visits this fall from former Catherine Malandrino COO Laurent Levasseur (Oct. 21) and celebrity stylist and author Phillip Bloch (Oct. 14).
